It is almost the end of the school year, but the Year 7 residential trip was well worth the wait. We spent 3 days and 2 nights along the white sand beach at the Sattahip Naval lodge, Samae San, Sattahip. This was a really brilliant journey together! The Thai Navy, our teachers and students all have wonderful memories, experiences, challenges and moments of hilarity which we will never forget.
On the first day, May 18th the bus left at about 8:10 am. We were given our own choice of who to go with, which was a bit like telling psychopath murderers to go and do whatever they want…but I liked that way. We arrived at about 3 hours later, and then we put all our stuff down and went for lunch beside the pool. Without any rest, the brilliant attractive Thai Navy energetically took us to the swampy, sloughy, muddy mangrove forest. Then let us planted a little baby tree. It was all awesome. Charlie found an eel too. After that we went to the turtle sanctuary where we learned why turtle’s migrate and how they are almost extinct. We got to go look at the turtle at all ages and had a nice relaxing time by the beach. After that we had dinner and a little quiz. Then off to our rooms to bed. I am going to be quite honest, the bedroom here is fine, not too fancy but not too dirty. But the real deal is the bathroom. I am telling you it is seriously really creepy, spooky and disgusting. It looks like a scene in a scary movie where the girl who was bathing gets killed in a dirty old hotel. However, within three seconds of showering, I fell asleep.
Second day, May 19th,
We woke up at about 6:10 am then got ready for breakfast. We ate a lot because the Thai Navy said that today would be a very exciting and tiring day. My favourite activities: sailing and snorkelling are waiting for me. For sailing, what we did first was divided all of us into groups of four and set off on the sail boat where the Thai Navy taught us how to control it. Unfortunately, my group didn’t have any sail boat left for us, so we took the awesome speed boat instead! It was super duper exciting. We took turn to drive and we went to visit all islands around the coast. We even visited the Royal Thai Navy Ship! Later on, we moved to another place to snorkelling by little tug boats. They were very slow, so we took very long time to move. It was probably the reason why I got sunburnt. At last we arrived at the snorkelling spot, we got off the boat and explored the coral reefs around the boat. The Thai Navy showed us many awesome things like Clownfish and sea leeches or sea urchins. The Thai Navy also let me hold the sea leeches and it kind of feel like a wet soggy hotdog with sesame all over it. Of course it worked wonders when we used it to scare the girls. The time past very quickly, we were all burnt up. We went back to the shore. We rest a bit in the resort. The next program was the best barbecue night ever. Even though the teachers challenged us with outdoor barbecue without chairs, the children still cheered and were soon chilled and willing to share a chunk of charred chicken together. Some of us did marshmallow barbecue. The marshmallow was warm and sweet at the same time it also fluffy, puffy and soft. It started of crispy then melted in your mouth. It was nice, warm and comforting. I put mine literally in the fire not near the fire. So my marshmallow went up in flames and you would know that it was the best roasted marshmallow I have ever eaten. After that we had some free time before sleep. Amused, amazed and excited, we ran to each other room played truth or dare and stuff it was awesome. Then we went to sleep.
