Year 13 are currently studying about tourism and are looking at the Maldives as an example of a country using tourism to help it develop. We were lucky to have a former colleague of mine currently on vacation there so during the lesson we took the opportunity to Skype her and she dutifully answered our questions about the islands, what the tourism set up is like and even gave us a tour of her accommodation. It was very useful to get that realtime perspective as none of us in the class have ever been there ourselves. This is another great example of technology helping to make lessons more current and engaging for students.
