FOBISIA Golf Tournament 2018

The annual FOBISIA Golf Championships was held at the prestigious Black Mountain Golf Course last week. All of the student’s performed magnificently as they battled hard to show all the schools in Asia that Regent’s, Bangkok has some of the best young golfers in this part of the world.
The course has recently been rated the 59th best Golf course in the world and was therefore a fantastic setting for such an occasion. Regent’s, Bangkok took 7 players to the Championships with students from Year 6 to Year 12. The tournament was a two day event, culminating in an awards ceremony for both individual and team prizes. With some extremely experienced golfers present at the Championships, it made for an exciting and tough competition.
The awards are as follows: Jenny (Year 12) 1st place overall U19 girls / 1st place overall girls gross; Mac (Year 7) 3rd place overall boys gross / 2nd overall U11 boys / Nearest the pin x 2; Stephen (Year 6) 4th place overall U11 Boys / longest drive / Nearest the pin; Mac/Stephen (Year 7 and Year  6) – 3rd place Team U11 boys and Mic (Year 8) 3rd place overall U13 boys

British Science Week: STEM Challenge Day 2018

Regent’s have just hosted an inter-school Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Challenge. Teams of Year 10 students from 10 international  schools took part and were challenged-to find solutions to the global problem of plastic waste. The quantity and quality of work produced by all students throughout the day was excellent. Teams did STEM, their schools and themselves proud and everyone showed tremendous imagination and ingenuity. We hope to see all schools back with us for next year’s challenge.

British Science Week: F1 Model Car DemonStration

We were very fortunate on 13th March to have Formula One in Schools bring their racing demonstration into Regent’s. Inspired by what we saw and did we plan to build a team to participate in the F1 STEM Challenge. On the day of the visit all students (and some staff) had great fun racing the F1 Gas Powered Cars on the purpose built track. We are also lucky to have one of the F1 team as a judge on our first Regents Inter-School STEM challenge day.

Xin Xia has been awarded prizes in three International Competitions

Regent’s student six year old Xinxia is the youngest person in Thailand to be awarded The American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition and be invited to perform at Carnegie Hall , New York.

Thannapas Luanpitpong (Xinxia)  has been awarded prizes in three International Competitions. She is the winner of The American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition 2018, winner of the Gold Prize in the American Association for the Development of  the Gifted and Talented’s ” Passion of Music ” 2018 Festival and second place (Young Musicians Category) of the American Protege International Competition of Romantic Music 2017.

Her recital took place in New York on Saturday 11th March.  Xinxia is the latest of a number of our talented musicians to perform at Carnegie Hall and we are delighted with her outstanding international  success.

British Science Week: Heart and Lung Dissection

We kicked off our British Science Week Celebrations on Monday 12th March with a mass lung and heart dissection. Led by our Science Ambassadors Students were given the opportunity to dissect and identify different parts of the heart and lungs.

TISAC Under 15 Girls Football

On Saturday Regent’s hosted the U15 Girls TISAC Football Tournament.

We started our group games against a strong St Andrew’s team who underestimated our ability as we scored the first goal. They responded quickly with the equaliser, ending the first half 1-1. With quick thinking from Benz and Grace in midfield, we took the lead again in the second half but struggled to dampen their strong strikers and the game ended 2-3. Next, we faced Charter; we attacked early and were rewarded with the first goal although the game was a 1-1 draw.

We met an undefeated Bangkok Prep team in the semi finals. We conceded one goal in the first half but took to the pitch in the second half with a new energy and focus. Unfortunately were unable to convert this into a goal so we went into the 3rd/4th place play off against Ascot. We scored the first goal and dominated this game – conceding a goal late on, taking us to extra time. The girls gave it everything they had however a small defensive mistake was all Ascot needed to win a free kick and score from it. We proudly took 4th place and everyone enjoyed a lovely day of football.

Player of the tournament for Regent’s was Benz for her excellent determination and growing confidence.

Under 13 and 15 TISAC Swimming Gala

Regent’s took part in a TISAC Under 13 and Under 15 swimming Gala at St. Andrew’s 107 on Tuesday 6th March. We assembled a strong team who competed across a variety of strokes and distances.  There were many praiseworthy results: Sun won the 100m Breastroke, Fay won the 50m Breaststroke, Yurika won the 100m freestyle, Sun won the 50m Freestyle and May won our second 100m Breastroke award. Also Regent’s  secured second place in all four of the relay events that we entered.

Well done to everyone who competed; we look forward to the Secondary Swimming Gala to be held in school early May!

TISAC Senior Boys Football Tournament

The Regent’s Senior Boys Football Team performed brilliantly to finish in 3rd place in the TISAC Senior Boys Football Tournament at Ascot on Saturday. The Hosts won the Tournament beating St Andrews 71 in closely fought final. Regent’s gained 3rd place by convincingly beating Bangkok Prep 6-0 in the 3rd and 4th place playoff. Earlier in the Tournament Regent’s qualified from the group stages by beating BCIS 3-1 and drawing with Bromsgrove 1-1. The boys did extremely well and although they lost their semi-final against STA 2-0, they more than made up for their loss and disappointment by dominating Bangkok Prep in the 3rd and 4th place playoff, scoring some lovely individual and team goals in scintillating performance.

With the Senior Girls finishing runners up in their tournament. Regent’s can confidently claim to currently be the second best school in TISAC Senior Football.

Our first group game was against a strong Ascot team, who had some very skilful players with amazingly strong and accurate shots on goal. They took advantage of our slightly sleepy start and they came away with a deserving win.

We then faced Bangkok Prep, who underestimated our ability as the girls stepped up and found their confidence. Some lovely passing and attacking play saw lissa slot in a goal in the first half taking the lead 1-0. In the second half, the girls continued to push in attack, hungry for a second goal. The defence were strong and consistent, being lead by Natalie throughout. Finishing 1-0.

This saw us through to the semi finals against well known opposition SIS. After our last game at the Pattaya Games finished 1-1, the girls knew they had to maintain their concentration and push for a goal early. As always, it was a fantastic game and the girls really pulled together to win 1-0, which saw us into the final.

The final took us against Ascot once again. With the aim to put in an improved performance from the first. The girls worked really hard to limit their skilled strikers, with birthday girl and goalkeeper Nane being challenged with every shot. She was invaluable and she made Ascot’s game very difficult. Sadly, we weren’t able to completely dampen them, but with far more chances for us, the girls really stepped up and deservedly came 2nd overall.

A fantastic morning which everyone enjoyed and these girls are real role models for the younger years to look up to.
