TISAC Senior Girls Football Tournament

Our first group game was against a strong Ascot team, who had some very skilful players with amazingly strong and accurate shots on goal. They took advantage of our slightly sleepy start and they came away with a deserving win.

We then faced Bangkok Prep, who underestimated our ability as the girls stepped up and found their confidence. Some lovely passing and attacking play saw lissa slot in a goal in the first half taking the lead 1-0. In the second half, the girls continued to push in attack, hungry for a second goal. The defence were strong and consistent, being lead by Natalie throughout. Finishing 1-0.

This saw us through to the semi finals against well known opposition SIS. After our last game at the Pattaya Games finished 1-1, the girls knew they had to maintain their concentration and push for a goal early. As always, it was a fantastic game and the girls really pulled together to win 1-0, which saw us into the final.

The final took us against Ascot once again. With the aim to put in an improved performance from the first. The girls worked really hard to limit their skilled strikers, with birthday girl and goalkeeper Nane being challenged with every shot. She was invaluable and she made Ascot’s game very difficult. Sadly, we weren’t able to completely dampen them, but with far more chances for us, the girls really stepped up and deservedly came 2nd overall.

A fantastic morning which everyone enjoyed and these girls are real role models for the younger years to look up to.

English Week

Last week was English Week in the Secondary School with lots of creative English activities taking place.  Throughout the week students were challenged with daily quizzes on language, literature and lateral thinking.  On Thursday the school hosted its first ever Poetry Festival – a celebration of the written and spoken word – with students and staff taking to the stage to share their poems.  On Friday we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. To round up the week, the English department provided a 99-question quiz on all things language and literature for students to enjoy during tutor time.  There was some stiff competition but Year 10 outshone all others by securing the first, second and third places!

Well done and thank you to everyone who got involved.

The Art of Learning

Lance King, founder of the website http://www.taolearn.com was invited to The Regent’s for the third time on Friday 23rd February. His one-day workshop involved a number of activities that encourage Year 11 students to think about the best way they can prepare for their IGCSE examinations.

As always, the students were impressed by his kind, friendly nature and his sense of humour. They found his advice very helpful in preparing for their revision over the next couple of months. One of the most important tools in an effective approach to learning is to have a revision timetable. The Year 11 students have started on this – and will hope to finish in next week’s tutor period.

Under 13 FOBISIA Games 2018

The Under 13 FOBISIA Games was held at Thanyapura Sports Hotel, Phuket, on 22nd to 24th February 2018. Throughout the weekend boys and girls competed in a number of different sporting activities including football, swimming, basketball and athletics. In total Regent’s won 17 medals in the pool and 6 on the Athletics track; our girls were placed 3rd in the basketball and football and our boys managed a fourth place finish in basketball.
There were individual successes for Sebastian, who achieved four medals in the swimming pool, Bam won gold in the discus and Ysabel won gold during the 200m finals. Our students demonstrated some real teamwork and determination to succeed. Well done to everyone who took part.

Year 6 to Year 7 Transition

On Friday 23rd February a group of Year 7 students visited the Primary school for a question and answer session with Year 6 about their transition to the Secondary school. They answered questions about teaching and learning, extra curricular activities, break and lunch times as well as rewards and sanctions. The Year 6 students had many questions such as “What are the main differences between Primary and Secondary?”, “What kind of activities are offered after school?” and “What subjects do Secondary students study that we don’t study in Primary?”

Overall, the session was very informative, with the Year 7 students giving some excellent, detailed answers. We hope that the year 6 students are looking to visiting the Secondary school in the coming weeks for Transition Day, when everything they heard about in this Q&A session will really come to life!

Operation Smile Medical Mission

During half term break a group of Regent’s students travelled to Mae Hong Son in Northern Thailand to help out with one of Operation Smile’s medical missions. Operation Smile provides free and safe surgeries to children with cleft lip and cleft palate as well as other birth defects and injuries.

Mae Hong Son welcomed the group with its cooler weather and beautiful blue skies. Weary from the long layover from Chiang Mai students began by making goodie-bags ready for the screenings the next day and then enjoyed a trip to the nearby Temple night market.

The next day at the local Hospital the screenings took place. Hundreds of people from villages and hill tribes are assessed and hope to be granted the opportunity to receive an operation. Regent’s students befriended and played with children, distributing toys along with the bags prepared last night. After lunch they visited one of the children’s wards where they made decorations, brightening up the rooms to make them as colourful as possible.

On the morning of the third day students attended the operating theatres and sat in on 4 operations. This was fascinating; the doctors and surgeons explained everything that was going on and the afternoon students met some of the patients who had been in surgery earlier in the morning.

Open House February 2018

Yesterday morning we invited prospective families to our school to find out more about life at Regent’s. It was a welcome opportunity for our students to tell parents about how we learn here and the wide range of additional learning opportunities that we provide. Our children did an excellent job of showing our visitors how proud they are of their school.
