The Class of 2017 have received offers from many top universities including King’s College, London; University College London; Queen Mary University of London; University of Warwick; University of Birmingham; University of Leeds; University of Bristol; Durham University, University of Exeter, George Washington University; New York University; San Diego University and University of Melbourne and many other prestigious destinations.

Environmental Systems and Societies – Year 12

Year 12 ESS students had the opportunity to meet with Eric Davidson and Doug Goessman a former US Fish and Wildlife federal agent to discuss wildlife and forestry crime. Here students were shown how dangerous the ivory trade is. Year 12 students then participated in a group discussion on methods that can help stop this. Overall it was agreed that when demand falls then ivory trade will diminish. This was a fantastic opportunity for students to see how they can use their subject knowledge beyond the syllabus.

IB School Supported Self-Taught class 2017

The end of this academic year at Regent’s is going to be unique: our first ever IB School Supported Self-Taught class are beginning to prepare for their final examinations. This is a very special subject that requires a tremendous amount of skill and dedication from the students who undertake it.

SSST students are guided by a teacher in school using the English language, however, the students have to study literary texts and write assessments in their own language. The IB offer this subject to students in over 80 different mother tongue languages.

If you would like to study your language as well as English, or even make your mother tongue language a priority at IB, then this class is for you!

Our Japanese students, Shin and Renaka in Y13, are so happy to be studying in their mother tongue language. Here they are smiling after making such a success of their Oral Assessment.

Have a look at the Regent’s IB Subject Guide for more information.

Year 11 and 12 community service (Operations Smile)

In February a group of Year 12 and Year 11 students went to Mae Hong Son to visit patients undergoing surgery for cleft lips and cleft palate. The students have been working alongside Operation Smile for the past year to help generate funds and personally help the needy.

Here is what one of our students have say about the overall experience:

“We have been working alongside Operation Smile to make this trip happen and it was truly life-changing. We observed the surgery in the operating room and also remained at the ward with people who were waiting or just got out of surgery. Hearing different background stories was really heartbreaking for us. But we were glad that they were there to get the surgery they need.

Seeing where all of our fundraising and donations went to really puts things into perspective. It made us realize how much change can take place when we raise money from bake sales, mufti days etc. We came back more passionate and knowledgeable about the charity and have been working hard since then to help in any way we can.”

Year 13 Community Service | Kiiran Care Foundation

Year 13 students’ CAS project focuses on Kiiran Care Foundation, a school run for Pakistani, Somalian and Burmese refugees and asylum-seekers. The school was opened last August and it has 67 students aged 4- 14.

Our students raised 8,588 Baht through fundraising activities such as pizza sale and coffee run. The money raised for students at Kiiran Care Foundation was used for basic necessities, playground equipment, paint and paint brushes for murals. Some of these items were donated by school students as well. The students went on-site to work with the children and improve the school.

University Visits 2017

We were pleased to welcome representatives from universities in the UK and Ireland, along with Regent’s International College, to our British Universities fair. Students in years 11-13 had the chance to talk to representatives about admissions, life as a student and different degree courses available. We have recently had visits from Imperial College, London, The University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, The University of St Louis and The University of Alabama in Birmingham. This month we are welcoming representatives from Hawai’i Pacific University, San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco. Year 11 students should make sure they join our Google Classroom page so that they receive all updates about visits.

Year 13 Biology students visit Siriraj Medical Museum

On Monday 16th January our final year IB Biology students visited the Siriraj Medical Museum. Here they got the opportunity to experience some of the ideas and concepts from their Human Physiology lessons in a visual, interactive, and often graphic, format.

On show were fetuses at different stages of development, and with a number of birth defects, as well as adult bodies cut to show the different organs and tissues inside! These were quite a shock for our students to see, but a very worthwhile experience.

Terminology Tennis – IBDP History

The Year 12 IBDP History students are having some rest-bite from their intense studies of modern history by engaging in some terminology tennis on the early problems of the Weimar Republic in Germany post-World War One. A good and fun way for them to remember key terms, events and figures from the period, although it is clear that they are much stronger historians than they are tennis players!
