The Regent’s senior boys basketball team claimed the TISAC league championships today as they overcame tough opposition in the shape of St Stephen’s. Regent’s applied good pressure early on in the game and maintained a 10 point lead for most of the first and second quarter. However with the team feeling the effects of 2 games in 3 days, St Stephen’s began to rally back and by the end of the third quarter the score was tied at 38 a piece. After some carefully selected words to the team by their coach, the boys took to the court determined not to let the game slip through their fingers. The determination and resilience that have been shown all season by this group of players shone through and they eventually won 63-49, and therefore claiming the league without losing a single game. Huge congratulations to the team.
The Senior boys faced rivals Bromsgrove after losing to them in the TISAC tournament last half term. Preparing for a competitive game, the boys took to court focussed and determined.
They dominated the game early, matching Bromsgrove play for play and taking advantage of their mistakes. They showed class in their play with amazing team work down the court and throughout the team changes.
The game ended as it starts with Regent’s displaying superior play from defence to attack. A fantastic game to watch and a well deserved win. Final score 67-47. Well done Regent’s team!
Last term, the Year 12 art students answered these questions within class “what is culture?”, “can a culture own an image?”, “how can we learn from the culture of others to inform our art practise in a respectful way”, “how can culture be used as a theme or inspiration for contemporary art?” and produced artwork in response. Subjects that the students looked at were racism in education, corruption within governments, colonialism, Buddhism- heaven or hell?, Prostitution, work ethics and our relationships towards social media. They were all very successful and as you can see have produced very intelligent responses to a highly sophisticated starting point.
On Monday 6th November, the Senior volleyball team was on their way home from their first Volleyball competition. Playing teams from SISB, KPIS and KIS, our newbie team were excited to try out their skills. We faced KIS first and outplayed them with consistency and a fantastic team work. Winning 2 games 21-13 and 21-14. The hosts SISB were next, with a well practised team they exposed our weakness and we lost both games ending the first 13-21 and pulled it back in the second narrowly losing 19-21. Our third game against KPIS was a tightly fought match, taking it to a third game which we won convincingly. The team is now very excited to take part in more fixtures.
Well done to all, you’ve made your coaches very proud!
The Regent’s International School Bangkok has the pleasure of welcoming 8 exchange students from 3 different schools this half term. We welcome Ellie, Jemma, Brooke and Mia from Scotch Oakburn School in Tasmania who will be with us for 2 weeks. They’ve been paired with four of our own girls (Janine, Natalie, Proud, Bell) who will then fly out with the Tasmanian girls and spend 2 weeks in their schools. Also from the Australian region, we have Maddison Weir in Year 10 who’s here a tad longer, until December. She’s from St. Phillip’s College located in the breathtaking town of Alice Springs. Both of these Australian exchanges are made through the Round Square network we maintain continuously. The 3 remaining girls on exchange are from Hakuho Girls High-School in Hokkaido, Japan. This has been running for a while and we welcome Yuna, Ellie and Mizuho and hope they’re going to enjoy themselves. School exchanges allow students to learn more about the world around them and Regent’s encourages this global outreach.
On the 9th of October Year 11 and Year 13 students studying Design and Technology had visitors from the IED Italian School of Design who came to run a workshop at school. The IED Italian School of Design is a tertiary institution that has strong links with industry leaders in fields of Design, ranging from Automotive Design to Jewelry Design and lots more in-between. The representatives from IED Italian School of Design showed the students how to improve their creativity and participated in a creative collage exercise. The students completed the task very well; they enjoyed it and were engaged through the duration of the task. The students were shown skills that are developed at IED Italian School of Design through the different programmes that they run. The workshop was concluded with an inspiring and informative talk about their facilities and the courses that they offer. Hopefully this will lead to more students seeing the benefits of careers based on Design and Technology and the options available from Tertiary Institutions, such as IED Italian School of Design, that lead to fulfilling and well paid careers.
