James Goddard School visit

Earlier this month the U13 FOBISIA team met with Olympiad swimmer, James Goddard. This is the second time that James has visited the school. The students were very fortunate to learn some key swimming techniques, particularly streamlining and improving the starts and finishes to races. We hope that this knowledge will be beneficial to the team as they head to the FOBISIA Games in Phuket later in the week.

Pattaya Senior Games 2018

On the 3rd and 4th of February, we took a squad of 20 students to Regent’s Pattaya for their annual invitational senior games. We enjoyed a weekend of football and basketball with our seniors representing The Regent’s International School, Bangkok with pride.

The girls took part in their basketball tournament on Saturday, facing a tough group and coming out in 3rd. Highlight of the day was holding a formidable St Andrews team who underestimated our girls. After they beat all other teams by at least 20 points, we held them within 10.

The boys took to the football pitch first and showed great team work and determination, particularly against a strong squad from BIS Phuket. They also finished 3rd in their group.

Sunday found the girls on the pitch and the enjoyment continued as they really pulled together. Nane and Lhaki took turns in goal and both were equally effective against some strong shooting. Highlight of the day was beating Regent’s Pattaya 3-0. The girls were consistent and came 3rd in their group.

The boys found their feet in basketball on Sunday and sailed comfortably through to the semi finals, winning all their group games. They faced BIS Phuket in a nail biting game but finished comfortably, landing themselves in the final.

This is when the whole squad really pulled together, with the girls (and most of the spectators) fully behind our boys. They faced the experienced and big squad of St Andrews. The game was closely contested with each point being match by the opposition. Unfortunately, St Andrews took the lead and the game ended in their favour.

Our boys came away with silver medals and should be incredibly proud of themselves. This weekend showed amazing team spirit and pride. They have set high standards and performed as amazing role models for our younger athletes. Well done to all.

U15 Girls Football Festival

20180201_135006The U15s had their first football festival of the season today, welcoming Charter and Ascot to Regent’s.

With excitement, the girls took to the pitch to face Charter first. It was a messy start with Charter scoring first but the girls reacted positively and with some quick reactions from Grace she levelled the game. In the second half, the girls pulled together and produced some beautiful passing combinations, particularly between Shree, Grace and Fay. The defence worked hard but Charter slotted through a second goal. Fay reacted with a strong strike to level the game.

In our second game, we faced a very skilled Ascot side. Shree calmed the nerves early by scoring from a well timed strike. Ascot showed great passing and strong attacking play but they didn’t level until the second half. They took advantage of our doubts and slotted away 2 more goals. However, Regents never gave up. Noon was strong in defence and supporting in midfield. Benz took to the pitch with amazing focus in defence. A whole team effort gave Grace the opportunity to score our second goal, ending the game 3-2 to Ascot.

We are really looking forward to our next festival and hopefully by even stronger as a team!

Well done everyone! Player of the festival for her unrelenting energy is Grace!

TISAC Athletics Success!

On Monday 20th, we took a team of 30 plus students to represent Regent’s at the TISAC Athletics competition. Full of anticipation and excitement after a very successful and enjoyable Sports Day, the students were focused and motivated for a good day of Athletics.

The day started strong, with Zak and Layla bringing home gold for the 800m event, showing outstanding pace throughout. The rest of the team followed suit, racking up an impressive medal haul including gold for Ashaank who stepped in last minute to throw the Javelin for the Senior boys team and the U13 boys relay team coming in first place.

The amazing team effort paid off, with U13’s and U15’s teams placing second and the Senior’s placing third. Not bad for a Senior team limited to 8 individuals in total! Overall, Regent’s came away with 30 medals, including 11 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze.

An amazing performance, and what a fantastic day. Making their teachers and their school extremely proud!

Regent’s Senior Boys are TISAC Basketball League Champions

The Regent’s senior boys basketball team claimed the TISAC league championships today as they overcame tough opposition in the shape of St Stephen’s. Regent’s applied good pressure early on in the game and maintained a 10 point lead for most of the first and second quarter. However with the team feeling the effects of 2 games in 3 days, St Stephen’s began to rally back and by the end of the third quarter the score was tied at 38 a piece. After some carefully selected words to the team by their coach, the boys took to the court determined not to let the game slip through their fingers. The determination and resilience that have been shown all season by this group of players shone through and they eventually won 63-49, and therefore claiming the league without losing a single game. Huge congratulations to the team.

TISAC Swimming Gala 2017

Senior swimmers had a very successful day of competition at the recent TISAC Swimming Gala at St Andrews 107. The students really enjoyed the atmosphere and swam exceptionally well across all of the events. Regent’s came away with 30 medals which ensured a 2nd place finish overall.

A fantastic effort – Well done Regent’s Senior swimmers!

Basketball match: Regent’s vs Bromsgrove 7-11-17

The Senior boys faced rivals Bromsgrove after losing to them in the TISAC tournament last half term. Preparing for a competitive game, the boys took to court focussed and determined.

They dominated the game early, matching Bromsgrove play for play and taking advantage of their mistakes. They showed class in their play with amazing team work down the court and throughout the team changes.

The game ended as it starts with Regent’s displaying superior play from defence to attack. A fantastic game to watch and a well deserved win. Final score 67-47. Well done Regent’s team!

Volleyball tournament

On Monday 6th November, the Senior volleyball team was on their way home from their first Volleyball competition. Playing teams from SISB, KPIS and KIS, our newbie team were excited to try out their skills. We faced KIS first and outplayed them with consistency and a fantastic team work. Winning 2 games 21-13 and 21-14. The hosts SISB were next, with a well practised team they exposed our weakness and we lost both games ending the first 13-21 and pulled it back in the second narrowly losing 19-21. Our third game against KPIS was a tightly fought match, taking it to a third game which we won convincingly. The team is now very excited to take part in more fixtures.

Well done to all, you’ve made your coaches very proud!

DD TENNIS Summer Camp

The DD TENNIS Summer Camp, which had 2 groups, Stage 3 (Red Ball) and Stage 2 (Orange Ball), and took place every weekday for 3 weeks, concluded on Friday 14 July.

The students were very committed and showed enthusiasm in the development of their tennis skills at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp.

Their achievements are as follows:

  • Stage 1 (Red Ball) Group
    • James and Emmy, who started playing tennis for the very first time at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp; yet by the end of course, they were regularly hitting all 5 core tennis shots: i.e. forehand and backhand ground strokes and volleys, and the smash
    • Shaan, who learnt and executed well ‘ net approach shots’,  ‘down the line’ and ‘cross court’ low hard- hitting shots ‘; as well as learning both volleys and the smash for the first time
    • James for earning an invitation to the DD TENNIS Stage 4 (Foam Ball) Academy for Reception
    • Shaan for earning an invitation to the DD TENNIS Stage 3 Academy (Red Ball) for Year 1 & 2
  • Stage 2 (Orange Ball) Group
    • Jump, Kevin, MJ, and Taipei, all from Year 5, for achieving all their Stage 2 (Orange Ball) certificates
    • As a result, all these 4 students received invitations to the DD TENNIS Stage 1 (Green Ball) Academy for Year 5 & 6
    • Also, a special mention to Taipei, who started playing tennis  for the very first time at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp. So under these circumstances, to pass all Stage 2 certificates, really was an amazing achievement
    • Great, the most experienced player in the group for winning the most games, such as ‘Five shots’. ‘Jailbreak’, and “Beat the Coach’
    • Samar, who showed great courage and determination by agreeing to change from holding his racket in his right hand to his left hand, which was proven to be the right decision, as it actually resulted in a significant improvement to his performance; even just after one week.
    • Finally, well done to Tham, who started Stage 2 (Orange Ball) tennis for the first time, and was hitting great forehands and backhands from the baseline within just a few days

These outstanding achievements demonstrate clearly how extremely successful DD TENNIS Summer Camp was for all those who attended!
