Regent’s Primary students took part in the annual FOBISIA Primary Games at the beginning of June. 20 of our best athletes who had been training incredibly hard since January, traveled to Phuket to compete in Athletics, Swimming, Tee-Ball and Football. All the students came home with medals and in total Regent’s won 94 medals, 37 gold, 32 silver and 25 bronze. We also came 1st overall in Swimming and 3rd in Athletics. As well as this the U10 Girls Football team won Gold and the U11 Boys Football team won silver. All the students had a truly amazing experience, achieving great success and making friends with other students from all over Asia.– Mr Goodenough (Head of Whole School PE)
Students at Regent’s recently enjoyed a visit from Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer James Goddard. James has competed in 3 Olympic Games and gained medals at nearly all major championships including gold medals at Commonwealth and European Championships, and the World Championships. James shared his wealth of experience with the Primary FOBISIA team, Year 10 students and some of the top swimmers from Key Stages 3 and 4. James also discussed his experiences going to the Olympic Games and what it took to get him there. He talked about the determination and effort that swimming at this level required and the benefits of having good teammates. “Never give up on your dreams because anything is possible with a positive attitude and work ethic” was James’s parting remark.
At Regent’s we constantly encourage our students to adopt a healthy, active lifestyle and allow them to explore their strengths in sports and physical education. This is one of the reasons we have partnered up with the global leader in football- Chelsea FC Soccer School. Playing soccer is great fun and has many benefits for children. These include:
– Teamwork: Soccer is a lot about the rapport among team members, knowing the skill-set of each team member and using that as an advantage to win the match collaboratively. A quality that children can apply for the rest of their life.
– Physical Fitness: The sport involves a lot of running and training which means it is the perfect activity to improve stamina and increase bone and muscle strength.
– Competitiveness: Being in a team students will constantly motivate each other to do their best. This motivation plays an important role in making the child more dedicated. When children are motivated and driven they become more successful students and adults who are ready to take up any challenge.
– Body Coordination: Due to shifts between kicking, walking and running, coordination is a key to soccer. Every trick performed at various speed and direction makes children better at hand-eye-leg coordination.
On Saturday 18th the U15 boys football team took part in the annual TISAC football tournament held at Ascot International School. After narrowly missing out on winning the C league on Wednesday the boys were in determined mood to make amends for their earlier performance and pit their wits against some stronger opposition in the end of season tournament. Regent’s made a tentative start with an opening match draw with a very defensive minded Wells team. Confidence started to grow after they beat Concoordian in the next game. However with back to back games in the blistering heat they lost out to the reigning champions Ascot in the third match. This meant that they had to beat a talented Bromsgrove side to qualify for the semi finals. The match was incredibly tight, with Regent’s taking the lead midway through the game, forcing Bromsgrove onto the attack. However this was no match for the Regent’s defence who were well marshalled by Non and continued to hold out until the final whistle. The semi final saw us drawn against KIS which we lost lost by a single goal and who were the eventual winners. This meant that there was still the third and fourth place play off to endure against Bankok Prep, who the boys managed to beat 1-0, largely thanks to some brilliant goal-keeping by Steven to finish in third place. An absolutely fantastic result.
Regent’s annual Secondary Swim Gala took place on Tuesday 7th March.
The day began with Key Stage 3 students competing in the morning, with our Blue House who unsurprisingly have the Shark as their house emblem taking an early lead, which they managed to just about hang on to going into the afternoon, where our Key Stage 4 and 5 students took to the water to compete in a variety of serious races and fun games.
As the day entered the final stages Red House were beginning to catch their fierce rivals, however the introduction of the ‘ride it cowboy race’ whereby competitors have to swim with a noodle float between their legs in a relay race, provided much amusement and some controversial disqualifications.
This resulted in Blue House hanging on to the lead and taking home the Swimming Gala House Cup.
After two fantastic football festivals, the Regents U13 Boys Football team were unbeaten! We played 6 games, winning all 6. Along the way we scored 46 Goals (Khawklong scoring 10 in the last 3 games).
A big thank you goes out to all the boys who have represented the school this term, and to all the friends and family who have come to support!
Thank you & Well done boys!
