GCSE PE students flex their thinking skills

The Year 11 GCSE PE students demonstrated team work and problem solving to break down the process of analysing performance, an important component of their coursework. The group had to put the process in the correct order and discuss their decision. They then took photos of the process they decided on for future reference. They really enjoyed getting out of the classroom and being challenged to test their thinking skills.

Boarding Updates (November W3 2016)

Activities are currently very service focused in the Boarding House, with our prefects continuing to lead a Sunday club for local children that live near our campus. For 3 hours they run some English games that promote English speaking, a sports activity and a swim session. A lot of our Year 12 students have been getting involved to enhance their CAS hours for their IB programme. An extra session to try and teach young children to swim has been planned for this Saturday. This kind of service is important as drowning is a leading cause of death in children in Thailand.

Many students have also been busy with cooking activities. They enjoyed a Japanese Sushi cooking session, run by one of the school’s day students last week, and there is a Thai cooking session this week.

In addition our sporty boarders, both boys and girls, have been involved in fixtures. The girls played a football match against KIS this week, and whilst the result did not go our way the girls had a lot of fun, they tackled well and kept possession for much of the game. The boys basketball team will be hoping for better luck when they play a Well’s International School Academy team this coming weekend. A group of boys also went wakeboarding last weekend. For some it was their first time, whilst others were more experienced. A great time was had by all, and there were lots of photo opportunities.

Many of our boarders took the opportunity to celebrate Loy Krathong, floating their Krathong’s in the swimming pool. The krathong’s had been made with the Thai department at school during the day.

For the last 3 weeks we have been lucky to have some exchange students from Japan stay with us. They will return to their school this coming weekend. We have enjoyed having them with us, learning about their school and showing them ours. They have found the exchange to be a great experience, making many new friends and immersing themselves in a new culture.

IGCSE PE class at the GYM

The Year 11 IGCSE PE class have been learning about Methods of Training as part of their course. This involved them using the brand new school gym facilities to learn about Circuit and Weight Training. The students really enjoyed being able to use the space and take part in active learning, which previously would not have been possible without the weights in the school gym.

The TISAC Basketball Season (September 2016)

The TISAC Basketball season is beginning to ‘Tip Off’ this term and Regent’s U13, U15 and Senior boys and girls teams have been training hard both in lessons and after school in preparation for their matches. With new coaches on board and plenty of opportunities for new and existing players to join the teams, Regent’s Basketball is hoping for a very successful season ahead.

The PE department is also very excited to announce that for the first year ever we will also be entering an U11 boys and girls team into the TISAC Basketball competitions and Mr Jackson, the new Primary PE teacher has been busy preparing his young and extremely enthusiastic players for their forthcoming matches.

Best of luck to all the teams this year!

Congratulations to our first winning team of the season – The U15 girls

The U15 girls basketball team won their first basketball fixture of the season against St Andrews 107.

Boarding Updates (August W4)

With lots of new faces joining the Boarding House this school year we have been running some ice breaker activities to get to know everyone a little better. The theme is based on the 2016 Rio Olympics, and has been popularly called ‘The 2016 Riogent’s Olympics’. Students have been working in teams first to create their own country and flag, and then to compete against the other teams. There has been a scavenger hunt, a dodgeball tournament, a blindfolded maze, team relay races, and a number of individual events. There are still medals to be won and the medal table looks very close so far!

During the first weekend boarders have the chance to visit Bounce, a nearby trampoline park, and to visit the Mega Bang Na shopping mall.

Burn It Off Week

Last week our secondary school students burned some extra calories with the teachers and their classmates. Here are some pictures of the fun filled ‘Burn It Off’ week.

Regent’s participates in U13 FOBISIA Games

U13 FOBISIA Games

The competition will be etched into the memory of its participants! 15 keen and enthusiastic students from the Regent’s International School, Bangkok contested across 4 days of intense sports based activity. Their wits and nerve was tested against 180 students from other parts of the Asian continent, in Athletics, Swimming, Football and Basketball. Despite huge rivalry, a major draw to the games was to make new friends. Success can be measured in many ways; by comparing improvement or by the visual collection of silverware at the end of such a tournament.

I am happy to report that our group of 15 young athletes managed to do both. The attitude and integrity of all of our participants was excellent and they competed without fear to ensure we reached the finals of both the Boys Football and the Girls Basketball competition.

In addition, numerous medals were collected by individuals during “Track and field” and “Swimming”. The Games concluded with a Gala Disco; a chance for students to celebrate the success of achievement but more importantly to throw a few shapes in time with music in ritual like fashion.
The following students were a credit to the School during their involvement in the games. FOBISIA Team captains Amey & Fay, along with team members, Ann-ann, Ichigo, Tor, Waii, Zahra, Gain, Shree, Moss, Jessie, Jimmy, Tim, Charlie and Andy.

U11 boys.jpg

This week the Under 11 boys football team played two very successful matches. On Tuesday they play St Andrew’s 107 away and won 6:5 and on Wednesday they played BCIS at home and won 5:0. This is a fantastic achievement well done to the team!

Senior Girls Football Tournament

As we hopped on the bus, both the excitement and anxiety had driven us to strive for optimum teamwork and of course, our main goal: have fun. Despite the scorching rays of the sun (almost burning our flesh), the climate did not distract us from the thrilling sensation of chanting out loud and proud “TEAM!” as we commence our first tournament.

We approached the matches with maximal enthusiasm. Whilst watching my team play from the substitute seating, I could sense their determination to honour our school with pride. There was no time for panting or sweat as we were having a shortage of goals (a.k.a we were losing). Our conscience was not fully connected to our foot movement, and that is when we were partially losing hope.

However, we were able to make a U-turn, we turned the wheel and thanks to the spirit of optimism (and excellent coach feedback), we had brought back motivation within the team. We manned up, clenched our teeth and fists and with all our forces, aimed for the goal. Our main strikers, Maryam and Florence outstandingly showcased impressive shots.

Conclusively, we had made it to the finals and gloriously took home third place on our first tournament as a team. We would like to thank Mr Jones, our coach; who has practically been our sixth sense throughout the matches, for always supporting us and giving us the training and strength we needed. This has been an unforgettable experience during our senior year at regents, and we are all looking forward to many more gleeful episodes.
