Donation to Good Shepherd Sisters

Community service is in the heart of Regent’s approach to well rounded learning. The school provides students with various opportunities to give back something to the community and during the 2016-2017 academic year students raised over 100,000 Baht via fundraising activities for our charity partners.
One such partner is Good Shepherd Sisters, a day care, help center and a home for the needy.
The school has supported them for many years and this year The Good Shepherd Sisters will put the donations towards improving their day care facilities. Thank you to our students and parents for their generosity.

IBDP Achievement

Congratulations to our 2016-2017 Head Boy Adarsh and Head Girl Mint for both achieving an amazing IB Diploma score of 42 out of 45. This is 40% higher than the world average.  During their time at Regent’s both students were role models, contributing towards many school activities and fulfilling their role as young leaders.
We wish them and all our graduates the best for their future.

DD TENNIS Summer Camp

The DD TENNIS Summer Camp, which had 2 groups, Stage 3 (Red Ball) and Stage 2 (Orange Ball), and took place every weekday for 3 weeks, concluded on Friday 14 July.

The students were very committed and showed enthusiasm in the development of their tennis skills at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp.

Their achievements are as follows:

  • Stage 1 (Red Ball) Group
    • James and Emmy, who started playing tennis for the very first time at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp; yet by the end of course, they were regularly hitting all 5 core tennis shots: i.e. forehand and backhand ground strokes and volleys, and the smash
    • Shaan, who learnt and executed well ‘ net approach shots’,  ‘down the line’ and ‘cross court’ low hard- hitting shots ‘; as well as learning both volleys and the smash for the first time
    • James for earning an invitation to the DD TENNIS Stage 4 (Foam Ball) Academy for Reception
    • Shaan for earning an invitation to the DD TENNIS Stage 3 Academy (Red Ball) for Year 1 & 2
  • Stage 2 (Orange Ball) Group
    • Jump, Kevin, MJ, and Taipei, all from Year 5, for achieving all their Stage 2 (Orange Ball) certificates
    • As a result, all these 4 students received invitations to the DD TENNIS Stage 1 (Green Ball) Academy for Year 5 & 6
    • Also, a special mention to Taipei, who started playing tennis  for the very first time at the DD TENNIS Summer Camp. So under these circumstances, to pass all Stage 2 certificates, really was an amazing achievement
    • Great, the most experienced player in the group for winning the most games, such as ‘Five shots’. ‘Jailbreak’, and “Beat the Coach’
    • Samar, who showed great courage and determination by agreeing to change from holding his racket in his right hand to his left hand, which was proven to be the right decision, as it actually resulted in a significant improvement to his performance; even just after one week.
    • Finally, well done to Tham, who started Stage 2 (Orange Ball) tennis for the first time, and was hitting great forehands and backhands from the baseline within just a few days

These outstanding achievements demonstrate clearly how extremely successful DD TENNIS Summer Camp was for all those who attended!

 

Boarding Updates – June 2017

From the Head of Boys’ Boarding (Mr.Gavin Terry):

The final few weeks of the academic year in boarding have been as action packed as the first few weeks were all the way back in August. We had a large number of our boarders involved in the school production of The Jungle Book, which was a fantastic success. jungle-bookOur boarders have also been busy on different activities for Round Square Week, including a trip to Laos and the Year 10 Outdoor Education trip. Our boarders also took on our school staff in a ‘friendly’ game of rounders, with lots of students and staff getting involved in the fun. The staff eventually came out on top, but we hope a rematch can be arranged early in the start of next term.
All the staff in boarding would like to thank our students for their contributions and participation over the last year. We wish them a happy and relaxing holiday, and we look forward to welcoming them back in August for the start of another action packed year.

From the Head of Girls’ Boarding (Ms.Anna Croucher):

Its been a busy and eventful end of term 3. In addition to many wrapping up their exams there has also been a range of fun activities and events at the school that has see the academic year out brilliantly.

There was an amazing production of Jungle book with a 100 plus strong cast and active participation of boarders of all ages.

 

Last week during Round Square week, there was a range of activities that embraced the Round square principles  through skill exchange, work project, community service and adventure. This included a wide variety of activities including helping locally based organisation and travelling abroad to Laos.

There was a nail biting in-house rounders game between staff and boarders, with the staff scraping a win on points, however the boarders showing immense determination along with great batting and fielding skills; they gave some tough competition, who knows what the score will be next time!

Last weekend a team of boarders attended the Neon colour night run. A 5km race that involved getting messy whilst keeping fit.image1

Its also been my first 3 weeks in post as head of girls boarding and I can honestly say what a pleasure it has been. The girls and team are amazing and everyone has made me feel so welcome. I have taken part in activities that i haven’t  done for years and have really enjoyed getting to know all the girls.

We all look forward to the next school year and what it holds after the well deserved break for the boarders.

Year 10 Outdoor Education Trip

53 of our finest year 10 students set off for the time of their lives! We traveled up to the Petcharat Scout Camp early on Monday morning full of excitement and anticipation. As soon as we arrived, we were divided into groups, shown our rooms and then set off to our activities. The students were given the opportunity to take part in a Cave Exploration, a Mountain Bike Safari and a Jungle Trek – with the chance to swim at the pool of a beautiful waterfall. The Students were also challenged with our 6 stage adventure race!
I though it was fantastic to see so many of our students enjoying and pushing themselves in activities that they may have never had the chance to take part in before; and to see the the spirit and teamwork that came from this was excellent!

Round Square Week 2017

From the Round Square coordinator in Primary:

We had an exciting Round Square week in Primary this year. Our little adventurers showed their bravery by scaling the heights of the climbing walls in the racquet club. Many students also tried Parkour for the first time.

Our little environmentalist learned about endangered animals and conservation in our Eco Warriors activity. They made posters and animal masks to educate the whole school community.

Our international and cultural activities focused mainly on Thailand. Students learned how to cook famous Thai dishes and enjoyed Thai arts and crafts at Sampran riverside. Some children spent a day learning Thai dance. One of our most popular activities was Going Bananas. The children made banana desserts and also made toys from banana leaves.

From the Round Square coordinator in Secondary:

This year for Round Square Week the students focused on the theme of ‘Discover more…Seek, Search and Explore’. The initiative of the week was to push students to try new activities and empower them to develop new skills. Thus, enhancing their understanding of the spirits of the Round Square IDEALS.

The Laos Service Trip was an invaluable opportunity for students to visit the UXO Centre in Luang Prabang, raise awareness and engage in activities to explore their surroundings such as kayaking and cooking.

On campus, a group of year 9 students created a colourful mural painting to celebrate ‘International Festivals’. During the week, the Animal Welfare project brought rescue dogs and police dogs into school to raise awareness of and educate students about the issue and local animal shelters. In addition, the on-campus carousel allowed students to experience and try a variety of activities from sports, creating art from waste to Tai Qi and meditation.

The Off-Campus ‘Discovery’ carousels facilitated participation in activities which incorporated a number of IDEALS. In the Seek carousel, the students tried their hand at wakeboarding, visited exhibitions by international artists at the Bangkok Arts and Cultural Centre and were educated about local wildlife conservation at the Bang Phra Bird Sanctuary. Meanwhile, in the Search carousel students learned about sustainable farming at Farm De Lek, prepared traditional Thai dishes and trained in natural and body weight movements at Asia Parkour. Lastly, the Explore carousel involved a lot of adventure with zip-lining at the Flight of the Gibbon, cycling in the Bangkok Jungle in Bang Kra Jao, and a day visiting the Chinese Cultural Centre.

 

Play in a Day

The children wrote the play from scratch and performed it to Early Years – all in the space of one day!
The play was called “Friends Whatever” that helped them think about being kind to each other as well as having an adventure creating the play!

Eco-warriors

Primary students have been learning about endangered species. They researched and found out that humans are mostly the cause!  They saw short videos of conservation projects and found out what we can do to help.  Picking up litter in the playground made sure that our school environment is safe for all living creatures.  They also made fabulous masks of an endangered animal.

Round Square Mural Painting

This term, Year 9 students wanted to paint a large mural inspired by our very successful International Day. We took influences from the different festivals of the world which were celebrated on that day. Trying to keep it as colourful and vibrant as possible whilst also showing off the amazing blending and paining skills of the girls involved. Well done Kitty, Paer, Dao, Naja, Gift, Guitar, Mimi S and Jammie!
