Regent's International School, Bangkok

Day and Boarding school for ages 2 – 18.

English Week at Primary

The Regents Primary celebrated English Week in the first week after half term. We looked at telling different stories from around the world and performed them in a whole school assembly. We were lucky enough to have various students and staff from secondary come in to share stories from their cultures too. Mr Graham ran a music session with the year 6’s, Year 12 students did a storytelling session with year 3,4 and 5 and Mr Treaty ran a drama session with Year 1 and 2. Everything was a great success!

Boarding Updates April 2017

For many it has been an exciting return to Term 3, particularly with the welcome addition of eleven new boys to the House. Making new friends, and an intense flurry of both football and badminton sessions, have been the early focus since our return. It has been great to see so many participating and keeping active.

For some it has also been a nerve-wracking time as they enter their exam period. We continue to wish our Year 11 and 13’s well and are extremely proud of their hard work and effort.

Activities have been focused around shopping malls, as we make sure everyone has all the equipment they need for a long and busy term; and service, as we continue to invite local children onto campus. We also ran a “mini team-marathon”, inviting students to form international, mixed gender teams to tackle a 12km course and see who comes out victorious!

The highlight this month was however our huge water fight in honour of Songkran. Everyone enjoyed soaking each other on the field and wishing each other good luck for the new year.

ThaiMUN Conference April 2017

IMG_7100

MUN (Model United Nations) is a simulation of The United Nations where students from schools participate and represent themselves as delegates of a given country. The delegates participating in MUN conferences have to work together to tackle real-world issues around the world and must use their public speaking and debating skills for their best interests. ThaiMUN is arguably the biggest MUN conference that is ever held in Thailand, and ThaiMUN 2017 is ThaiMUN’s 4th conference. The magnitude of this conference is shown by how there are a total of 240 participants from 30 different schools, and some participants even come from overseas. Since this is my 4th time attending a MUN conference, I was thinking that this conference was going to be the conference where I display my improved skills and perhaps even rise to the most experienced and most proficient of delegates in a MUN conference. However, I was proven wrong because I was put into the Historical Crisis Committee, where it was a completely new experience to me. Nevertheless, this new experience was undeniably the most fun and the most weird for me. Our issue was on the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, and my “committee” was COMBLOC, a cabinet consisting of Russian and Cuban leaders. Instead of speaking for the country each delegate represents like typical MUN committees, we were supposed to work together and achieve the best outcome for our supposed nation, The Soviet Union. However, this was not easy, as we also had to take a course of action while appeasing our enemy, NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) , which was another committee that was a part of the Historical Crisis Committee. The entire 3 day conference for me was a splendid mess, as we did things such as discussing battle plans for a war (made-up) between The USA and Cuba, causing enough confusion in NATO to the point of paranoia, and then ultimately end up with a nuclear fallout, thus making us responsible for the formation of “World 2.0”. Overall, ThaiMUN was a truly amazing experience, and such conferences fuel me with the desire to continue participating in more MUN conferences and perhaps even make me have a passion for pursuing a career in International Relations.

Regent’s UK Experience Programme 2017 (Pt 2)

Our UK Experience students are having a lot of fun! During the weekend they visited Cambridge and enjoyed an educational trip to Science and History Museums. The springtime British weather was typically unpredictable with pouring rain all day and then hailstorms. However this could not stop the children from having a good time. When the weather cleared up they toured Abbey Gardens, shopped at Bury St. Edmunds and even enjoyed some Thai food.

Regent’s UK Experience Programme 2017 (Pt 1)

It is the first week of the 2017 Regent’s UK Experience Programme and it’s a delight to see how the students have settled down and adapted to the new school and new people.
Within the safe and supervised environment of Barnardiston Hall UK our students have made good friends, settled down in their dormitories and toured around the campus. To make the students more comfortable each one of them have been assigned a ‘buddy’ who is a student at Barnardiston. This is an excellent way for our students to get to know the school so it feels more like a home away from home. Over  the coming weekend students will be having their first trip around the area; they will be visiting Cambridge and Colchester zoo.

Summer concert by Yamaha The Regent’s

Last week The Regent’s Yamaha Music School hosted a special 2 day summer concert showcasing performances by 115 students who have been learning dance and music at the school. On the first day the junior group graced the concert hall with ballet and piano performances. And on the second day the upper primary and secondary lightened the room with fantastic singing, tunes and beats on musical instruments including saxophone, ukulele, guitar, and drum.  To make the event even special Regent’s Chairman and Director welcomed Ms. Pranapda Phornprapha, the President of Siam Music Yamaha, and Miss Verada Saengsomboon, Managing Director of The Regent’s Yamaha Music School.

Regent’s hosted 2 booths at the Smile-Carnival

Regent’s Smile-Club have been working tirelessly throughout this academic year assisting in organizing the Smile-Carnival hosted by Operation Smile that took place on April 1st at National Stadium. The Smile-Carnival was a student led charity event where all proceeds went to providing children with surgeries for facial deformities in particular cleft lips and palates surgery. The Regents Smile-Club hosted two booths, the Haunted Maze and the Henna Booth which were the most popular destinations of the night! The students raised 30,000 baht through fundraisers in school to pay for the expenses of the booth.

Last year, the student led charity event raised over 3 million baht and this year the students aim to reach their new personal best.
