Bobbling Along in Boarding

Last weekend we welcomed Bangkok Bobble Football to our boarding campus. Twelve of our students had great fun bumping into each other playing football inside giant inflatable bubbles. The staff were happy to get involved too, and students enjoyed trying to knock them over! Ichigo was the only girl, and did a great job taking on the boys, managing to knock some of them over. She did end up upside down a few times herself though!

 

The rain has hampered many of our outdoor activity plans. Most evenings sports activities on the grass have had to be changed to indoor ones, and one of weekend cycling trips had to be postponed in favour of a dry trip to the mall instead. With a miserable forecast for the coming week we have also had to postpone our hotly anticipated ‘Staff vs Boarders’ sports evening until after the half term break in November. Our boarders are disappointed, but it gives the staff more chance to practice so it can be a closer game!

We were also proud to present our new Captains and Vice Captains of Boarding with their badges in a Secondary assembly, deservedly recognising their achievements in front of the school. We hope they wear them with pride and continue to serve the Boarding House well.

Year 10 Artist Tonal Studies

The Year 10 Art students have working hard this term on their first piece of coursework, they have been learning about tone and values. They were asked to choose an image by an Artist they admired, we studied the tonal values, how the Artist was able to render the shapes and how to create Form within our work.

Here are a few of their beautiful pencil studies, for a closer look come and see them in the foyer of the Secondary building.

Music Scholars perform at American Food Fair

On Friday 2nd October, 9 Music Scholars, along with Miss Teague and Mr. Ansell traveled to Central World, having been invited to perform at the opening of the American Food Fair.

With a planned repertoire of American hits including medleys from ‘Wicked’ and ‘Frozen’, we arrived to discover that ‘Singing in the Rain’ would have been more appropriate!

A huge thunderstorm had left the outdoor event looking a bit soggy, but we weren’t going to let that stop us, and the students performed excellently, demonstrating again what excellent Music scholars we have at the school.

SALAD (Speaking And Listening All Day) Day

On Friday 2nd October, Regent’s Secondary School held their first ever SALAD Day. No, this does not mean everybody in the building ate salad for the whole day; SALAD is a literacy initiative originating in the UK which helps generate more focus around speaking and listening skills. SALAD stands for Speaking And Listening All Day; the clue is in the title! For all KS3 students and teachers pens and writing on devices was absolutely banned and all learning had to take place through performance or discussion related tasks.

All departments went to an extra special effort to make these lesson exciting and the school was buzzing with the hum of activity all morning. Teachers had very tightly structured lessons to make sure each students was taking part and was given the chance to speak; it was certainly impressive to see the both the quality and variety of lesson our Regent’s teachers were able to create for our students.

We can’t wait until the next SALAD Day!

Year 3 Weaving

Our first CCS topic in Year 3 was weaving. The students learned how to weave and planned the design for their woven bag. They all really enjoyed the whole process from making their design to creating their woven bag from different materials. Well done Year 3!

6N Assembly – iPads and Friendship

We had a brilliant time in 6N creating our final assembly for Primary. Our learning objective was two fold; to learn more about the different applications that our iPads have, and to reflect on our friendships we have in our class and school. 4G Rainforest Assembly

It fills me with pride, when I think about the fabulous effort, that absolutely everyone in 4G made, to make our Rainforest assembly such a huge success. This term everyone has thoroughly enjoyed learning about our Rainforests Topic, and the depth of children’s knowledge, of these precious habitats and their importance to the earth, really shone through in the assembly.

We have all worked amazingly hard, to remember our lines, containing some very, very tricky technical vocabulary, such as ‘absorb,’ ‘basilisk’ and ‘atmosphere.’ The children also showed great maturity, in how they were able to listen to advice on how to make sure that their words were clear and loud, but also delivered in a manner, which would enable the audience to fully understand the important environmental message that was at the heart of our assembly: the earth’s rainforest are under serious threat from deforestation and this is something that affects us all.

We have also had stacks of fun. Making the animal masks was brilliant, exploring habitats and discovering rainforest animals like the sensational tarsier and the super cool basilisk lizard, was both fascinating and highly entertaining. Finally, we mustn’t forget to say a huge ‘thank you’ to Miss Usa, for her assistance with the brilliant masks and costumes, and to Mrs. Lyng, for all of her help with our song about the fearsome green anaconda!

Well done 4G, I’m super proud of you all.

Under 15 Girls Basketball Victory!

Well done to our U15 girls basketball team who claimed a victory last week! Read Lissa’s report below.

On Wednesday 23rd September, Regents basketball Under 15 girls played against Charter. Our team includes Pin Y9, Shan Shan Y9, Na Y9, Sunny Y9, Rose Y9, Xin Xin Y9, Silvia Y9, Ploy Y10, Lhaki Y10 and Lissa Y10. Everybody did their best to compete, and everybody enjoyed the game. We won by 16 – 4, the whole team was very happy and excited because we won the game on our first match of this season. For us, it’s not about winning, it’s about the experience and the friends we make along the way.
